A formula entered in the the column mode generates dynamic data that is updated automatically whenever its source data changes. Formulas entered in columns remain there until you delete them.
Note: When a column contains a formula, the formula indicator (a small triangle) is displayed in the column ID.
Step 1
Double-click the ID of the desired column.
The column ID appears in the upper-left corner of the data window to indicate column mode.
Step 2
Enter a column formula in the formula bar by:
• Typing the formula
• Pasting a function with the Paste Function command (Data menu)
• Pasting a formula that you copied from another data sheet or column
Note: A formula must always begin with an equal sign. The text that follows might include mathematical operators, functions, or other text such as references to specific columns and cells. If you use the Paste Function command, you don't need to enter an equal sign in the cell.
Step 3
Press Enter or Return to calculate the formula and display the results in the specified column.
Note: You can exit column mode at any time by pressing Return or Enter, or by clicking outside the formula bar.
